There's a question every insurance broker has fielded at least once: "But what are they actually like when I need to make a claim?"
It's a valid question. A policy is only as good as the people behind it when something goes wrong. That's why the 2026 LMI ClaimsComparison ratings matter to us, and why we're proud to share that Hutch Underwriting has been awarded 5 stars across all six of our rated product lines.
- Professional Indemnity
- Management Liability
- Strata
- Landlords
- Liability (Trade Pack)
- Contract Works (Construction)
What is LMI ClaimsComparison?
LMI ClaimsComparison is an independent ratings site, run by LMI Group, that assesses the claims service of Australian insurers and underwriting agencies by product class. It operates, in their own words, "without fear or favour."
The LMI ClaimsComparison ratings are published annually. Ratings are determined using data from the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA), together with ongoing surveys of insurance brokers, loss adjusters, builders, and other service providers. Five stars is the highest rating available, recognising what LMI ClaimsComparison describes as excellent claims service. Ratings at four stars and above qualify for a badge, which LMI awards annually.
This isn't a self-reported metric or a paid endorsement. It's an independent assessment built on data and direct feedback from the people who interact with claims teams day in, day out.
Why Claims Service Matters
When a broker recommends cover, they're making two commitments on behalf of their client: that the policy fits the risk, and that the insurer will deliver when it counts. The second commitment is the one their client will remember most vividly.
Hutch has a dedicated, Sydney-based in-house claims team.
The 5-star ratings across all six product lines reflect what that team delivers.
What This Means for Your Clients
When a broker places a risk with Hutch, they can point to one of the most telling Hutch Underwriting reviews available: an independent third-party rating as evidence that the claims promise holds. That's a meaningful conversation to have at renewal, and an even more meaningful one after a loss.
The LMI ClaimsComparison ratings are published annually. Hutch's 2026 badges are available on our homepage and on each individual product page.
