Matthew Scarra

Head of Product Development

Matthew Scarra brings over two decades of underwriting and product expertise to his role as Hutch’s Head of Product Development. He has held senior roles across some of Australia’s largest insurers and global insurers, spanning Financial Lines, Business Packages, ISR, Liability, and Contract Works. Most recently, he led product and underwriting portfolios at a leading international insurer, where he combined technical expertise with technology-driven innovation to deliver broker-friendly solutions. 

Originally trained in electronics at TAFE, Matthew went on to complete his ANZIIF Diploma of Financial Services, blending practical trade experience with deep insurance specialisation. His diverse background covers almost every line Hutch offers from Strata, Construction, and Professional Indemnity to emerging areas like Commercial Landlords and Management Liability, making him uniquely placed to shape products that are both technically sound and broker-centric. 

At Hutch, Matthew is focused on building products that cut through red tape, with formats that are easy for brokers to use and easy for clients to understand. He is particularly passionate about leveraging technology such as APIs, automation, and AI to improve speed, clarity, and user experience across the insurance lifecycle. 

Outside of work, Matt is a keen glamper and caravanner, cyclist, and live music enthusiast. True to his team-first mindset, he believes “nothing beats winning with a team” and brings that collaborative, can-do spirit into every challenge.
