Assistant Underwriter, Residential Property

Robert has joined the Property Team at Hutch as one of our Assistant Underwriters, bringing with him more than 20 years of senior operational experience across transport and logistics, alongside hands-on experience as a workers’ compensation claims officer.

His previous work in claims gave Robert valuable insight into how policy decisions play out in real-world scenarios. Managing incidents, navigating compliance requirements and working through complex claims reinforced the importance of clear policy intent, accurate risk assessment and practical decision-making, lessons he now applies directly in his underwriting role.

Before moving into insurance, Robert led large teams in high-pressure environments where clear communication, attention to detail and accountability were critical. His background spans compliance, stakeholder engagement, dispute resolution and financial oversight, providing a strong foundation for thoughtful underwriting and broker support.

Robert joined Hutch because its values of honesty, trust and hard work closely align with his own, as well as its strong focus on training, mentoring and systems that genuinely support brokers. While still early in his underwriting journey, he is committed to building deep technical knowledge across Hutch’s construction and property product lines.

He takes a straightforward, responsive approach with brokers, focusing on plain-language communication, transparent timeframes and practical solutions. Robert’s aim is to be dependable and easy to work with, helping brokers feel confident there will be no surprises.

Outside of work, Robert enjoys staying active, following sport and spending time with family and friends. He is driven by doing work that adds real value, continuing to develop as an underwriter and building trusted, long-term broker relationships.
