Important Information for Hutch Policyholders Affected by Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred
We are here to help.
Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred is currently impacting parts of Southeast Queensland and Northern NSW, and we understand this is a challenging time for our policyholders. Hutch is here to support you through the claims process and provide assistance where needed.
Our in-house claims team has activated its catastrophe response plan, bringing in additional claims specialists to manage the increased demand.
Outside business hours, your first point of contact should be our Emergency Make Safe partners, who are ready to assist with urgent repairs. However, we will also be monitoring emails after hours to provide further support where needed.
We’ve outlined key information below to help you guide policyholders through the claims process.
Cyclone Coverage in Your Policy
Our standard Hutch Residential Strata and Annual Construction Policies do not have a Cyclone exclusion, however there may be some exclusions, such as actions of the sea and storm surge, where coverage is restricted. This is determined upon lodgement of a claim, which we recommend doing as soon as any damage is identified.
To check coverage, including any conditions and excesses for cyclone damage, please refer to your Policy Schedule and Product Disclosure Statement (PDS):
Step 1: Ensure Your Safety & Minimise Further Damage
- Ensure your safety first – If you are in immediate danger, contact emergency services by dialling 000.
- Minimise further loss – If it is safe to do so, take reasonable steps to prevent further damage (e.g., temporary repairs such as tarping roofs or boarding up broken windows). Keep all receipts for reimbursement.
- Document the damage – Take photos and videos of the damage before making any repairs.
Step 2: Lodge Your Claim
- Contact your insurance broker – Inform your broker of the incident and provide your policy number as shown on your Schedule.
- Lodge a strata claim
- Lodge a construction claim
- Discuss a claim—Your broker should represent you and your claim. They can lodge and discuss your claim by contacting our Claims Team, which is available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. AEST.
