Specialist PI cover with Cyber included as standard, now available to brokers via Ebix Sunrise Exchange.

[SYDNEY, FRIDAY 21 NOVEMBER 2025] – Hutch Underwriting has launched two new Professional Indemnity (PI) wordings designed for SME construction and trade businesses that provide advice or design as part of their work. The PI Design & Construct and PI Trades wordings are now transactable for brokers via Sunrise Exchange, offering limits up to $5 million, subject to underwriting criteria and policy terms.

Built for Australian SME builders, construction firms and trades that prepare reports, specifications or installation designs, the new wordings bring advice, design and incidental cyber exposures into a single PI solution. Both wordings include Professional Indemnity and Cyber cover as standard, with optional extensions that can be tailored to the nature of the professional services provided.

“Brokers have told us it’s getting harder to place PI for construction-related risks where there’s any design or advisory component,” said Ross Chambers, Head of Financial Lines at Hutch Underwriting. “They’re often forced to stitch together multiple policies or wait days for a response on what are, in reality, well-run SME businesses.”

“With these wordings, we’ve focused on clear appetite, streamlined questions and digital access. The aim is to give brokers faster answers on Design & Construct and Trades PI, so they can spend more time advising their clients and less time chasing quotes.”

The PI Design & Construct wording is targeted at SME building and construction businesses working on individual or low-rise residential and commercial projects, typically under $10 million in project value. It is designed for construction businesses that provide professional services in-house or via subcontracted engineers, as well as construction-only firms that offer incidental professional services on their projects.

The PI Trades wording is aimed at tradies – such as electricians, carpenters, painters and other licensed trades – where reports, advice or design are part of the service. It is designed for individual and low-rise projects within defined project value limits and excludes higher-risk civil, mining, high-rise and similar project types.

Both wordings provide:

  • Professional Indemnity cover for civil liability arising from the conduct of the professional business, with limits generally available up to $5 million, and up to $10 million in the aggregate.
  • Cyber cover included as standard, with a sub-limit for selected third-party and first-party cyber events, such as data security breaches, client network infection and cyber-crime losses, subject to policy terms and conditions.
  • Optional extensions such as Sudden and Accidental Pollution, Previous Business, Mitigation Costs and, additionally for Design & Construct, Proportionate Liability Waiver, Novated Contracts, up to the limits specified in the policy schedule.

Both new PI wordings are available exclusively to authorised insurance brokers via Sunrise Exchange (product code HUTPI).
